🖤 My Portishead Post 🖤

It was an unexpected delight 🤗 and pleasant surprise to hear Portishead on the radio one wet and rainy 💧 night as I was driving home; so much so, that I had to record it! I hear her music only very rarely over the airwaves these days. I fell in love with Portishead ❤ many years ago: It was a hot 🔥 summer night sometime during the mid-1990’s when I was in an East Village apartment and some guy gave me a copy of her debut album “Dummy.” I don’t remember who he was (or who else was with me) but do recall being immediately smitten by her sound. Back then, I was really into alternative rock and was a “grunge girl” in many respects. Some of my favorites at the time were: Pearl Jam’s “Ten;” Alice in Chains’ “Dirt;” Stone Temple Pilots’ “Core;” Soundgarden’s “Badmotorfinger,” and Nirvana’s “Nevermind.” I also really liked the eerie and ethereal, dark wave sound of Cocteau Twins, and that gothic rock sound of The Cure’s “Disintegration.”

But Portishead had a completely different sound than anything else I had ever heard up to that point. I liked the blend of psychedelic electronica with the murky beats and chillout vibes of trip-hop, dark cabaret, and acid jazz; because of this, I discovered other artists similar to her such as: Tricky, Morcheeba, and Massive Attack. I loved the music from the eighties (and I still do! 💖), but the nineties had some cool grooves too, and I would often just walk around New York City with my walkman 🎧 (and later, portable c.d. player) to sounds of any one of these. Though there’s some music from today that piques my interest now and then, I will always reminisce these sounds as reminders of a time now gone, but of which I remain very fond. 🥰

Because I enjoy remixes and alternate / extended versions, I collected the following 25 links to Portishead songs on YouTube directly below. I select on the basis of both sight and sound: how it looks visually and how it sounds musically. Hope you Enjoy! 🙏
